Poa Populations

Early spring is the best time to monitor Poa annua populations on your greens. This is because of the noticeable difference in color between dormant bent grasses and Poa annua during this time of year. The following picture is of 12 green. This green has one of our worst greens when it comes to Poa annua population. As you can see, the front of the green has drastically more of the light green Poa annua than the rest of the green. This green has high Poa annua populations due primarily to two factors; less sunlight, less airflow. We made great strides this offseason to help improve both of these issues and I expect our Poa annua populations to slowly decline year over year.
