Poa annua reduction

It may seem as though there is more Poa annua in our greens than ever before but that is not the case. Our reduction in fertilizer applications and water usage along with our weekly applications of Paclobutrazol have helped hurt our Poa annua populations and turn it a distinct lime green color. It now stands out more than ever and provides a stark contrast to our bluish-green bent grass. As long as the Poa annua remains stressed, the bent grass has a competitive advantage. This is particularly important in the fall when temperatures drop and Poa annua populations tend to increase. Our management practices will gradually and slowly increase our bent grass populations which will provide long-term benefits for the golf course including; reduced water usage, reduced pesticide usage and a reduced chance of winter damage.
